Yes there was beatings and mean Caleb.but how are you supposed to get the evil mentallity of Caleb, if you fall in love with him from like Chapter 2! Seriously.nothing Caleb did to me was evil.you can tell he was in love with his prisoner from like day 1. Yes, this is supposed to be this dark romance and brutal and stuff like that. this is my review for book 1 and 2: I expected so much more. Read with caution, enjoy the romance, but don't be surprised at anything you might encounter on your journey though captivity and seduction. There is some sexual violence against both men and women in this book, it is not for the faint at heart. I did find at times I could not put down the story because I kept wondering what was going to happen next. Sorry if I gave it away, but it is the truth after all, you expected it and its why we all read romance :). Of course at the end of the day, everyone ends happy and in love. Caleb, the kidnapper and trainer starts off as hard in the first book and softens as the story moves along. She does a good job of handling the psychological side of kidnapping and submission but keeps the female character strong and you want to root for her as she falls in love with her captor. Roberts does a good job of giving the reader a glimpse of this lifestyle but I did find some of it a little off-putting. Being that this is a very concerning subject matter in todays times, I was curious and a little concerned about how the story would be handled. The story of both books centers on Livy a young American who is captured by Caleb to be trained and sold as a sex slave for revenge. It essentially starts at almost the end then guides you between then and now which can be difficult to keep up with when listening vs reading. My one complaint while listening to this book was that is jumps back and forth between the past and present to tell the story.

This book is the continuation of the story that begins with Captive In the Dark and is written very differently.
